Keep leftover paint

Keep leftover paint

To clean, store and preserve your paint, you must first make sure you use it properly and adopt an effective work method at all stages. Common sense and planning will probably help you to better "manage" your paint inventory. Think of when you’ll want to reuse that little soft green you loved so much in the bathroom.

Beware of drops

When you pour paint into a bin, hold the pot so the paint does not drip on the instructions on the pot. If you pour it more than once, make sure you always pour it on the same side. Take out the excess paint before it dries. To remove paint that accumulates inside the pot’s groove, use a cloth to wipe it off. This simple step will prevent the paint from drying out, which could prevent you from closing the pot properly. Wipe the paint off the edge of the cover as well.

Paint on the roller

When you finish painting, remove the excess paint on the roller with a scraper. You will remove a surprising amount of paint. To keep your paint roller for a short time without having to clean it, there is a simple and effective trick. Wrap the roll in a piece of aluminum foil, plastic wrap or plastic bag. You can then store it in the freezer overnight. This will prevent extensive cleaning if you plan to take the roller back quickly.

Before closing again

Before closing the paint can, cover the lid with an old cloth to absorb spills. Using a hammer, lightly knock the cover around the perimeter to close it tightly. You can also cover the jar with plastic wrap before closing it. This prevents splashes, debris and seals the pot more tightly. If a paint can is dirty with dirt or dried paint chips, do not throw it away. Use a paint filter or cotton wool to transfer it into a clean container.
