Sensible Decor Advice for the Baby’s Room

Sensible Decor Advice for the Baby’s Room

Is your baby on its way? No doubt you wish to welcome them into a room that is as comforting, reassuring and cozy as your arms. Here are some inspiring design ideas!

The baby’s room is generally decorated with great care. This is not surprising as this is the room in which your new arrival will sleep. But it must be just as practical as it is beautiful! You will find here a few suggestions on how to embellish and organize this important space.

1. Create a Soft Atmosphere With Texture

Everything in this room should invoke calm and softness. To achieve this, it is best to select soothing textures, such as wool, velvet and fur. Whether for a carpet, the curtains, a throw, a pillow or an armchair, opt for textures that have the desired gentle feel. Carpets are a doubly judicious choice as they are not only comforting underfoot, but can also be used as a play area or dressing mat for baby.

2. Choose a Decor With Roundness

Do you know that square lines and angles evoke organization and stability as well as give a room character? Choosing furnishings and accessories with right-hand corners is therefore an excellent idea for all rooms; however, they may make the nursery room feel austere. It is therefore best to include round shapes to give a gentler atmosphere. Curves, with the use of pillows, large armchairs or light fixtures, will make the room cozier.

3. Choose Practical Window Coverings

Your little one’s room should be brightly lit for playtime and changing time, but be dark during daytime naps. For this, installing blackout curtains in addition to semitransparent drapes is a good solution. Coloured fabric shades have also been popular for the past few years. They preserve intimacy all while letting light through, and their cheerful colours are perfectly suited to a child’s room.

4. Think About Storage

Despite babies’ small size, they are voracious consumers (although some products are pretty optional!). The list is long: toys, books, diapers, clothing, infant care products! It is best to think about how you will organize the room to keep it practical. Additional shelving in the closet, a bookcase, baskets or drawers beneath the bed, boxes fixed to the wall, etc., are all storage solutions that the parent looking to create a streamlined decor will be thankful for (at least once baby is asleep!).

5. A Gender-Neutral Decor

Many parents do not want to learn the baby’s gender before the birth. Here are some tips if you are one of those who want the new nursery’s decor to be as neutral as possible. Firstly, more “unisex” colours, such as green, grey, yellow and red, should be picked in warm and serene tones for a relaxing atmosphere. A combination of navy blue and turquoise is also considered gender-neutral. Additionally, all wood varieties are perfectly appropriate for a genderless baby’s rooms. Unsure which pattern to pick? Why not choose themes centred on animals or natural elements (clouds, stars)?

6. Go for Cooler Materials

Are aggressive colours, and accessories and posters featuring kids’ TV characters not your cup of tea? There is no obligation to include them! We are sometimes, though, hesitant to decorate the baby’s room like the rest of the house. And yet, we can offer them a modern design without making the room too adult. To do this, you could fully tile a wall or add stainless steel accessories. Faux concrete is also a good option. To give the space some warmth, materials like wood, wool, plush bedding and silky soft pillows will counterbalance the cooler materials. The result is a contemporary space adapted to baby’s needs.

7. Angelic Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a perfect decorative accent for your bundle of joy’s room: it will create a strong focal point. Stores offer a full selection in all colours, styles and textures. You can opt for a classical, contemporary, modern or even rustic decor by putting up wallpaper. You will often only need to cover a single wall to make a statement. If you don’t want to have to think about redecorating the room over the next few years, choose one that is not too childish, like polka dots or a herringbone pattern.

We bet that with all these decor ideas, baby will grow up in an environment that is both peaceful and stimulating. Get your paintbrushes out!
