Upcoming Trends: 6 Types of Sun Shelters that Will Steal the Spotlight Next Summer

Adding a shelter to your yard that is adapted to your needs is the ideal solution for protecting yourself from the sun’s harsh rays and adding privacy. Here’s a sneak peek of projected outdoor design trends for summer 2021.

The Triangular Sail Shade Sun Shelters

People love design concepts that can be adapted to changing needs. Some companies have brought to market a product with this desire for flexibility in mind: the moveable triangular sail shade. It comes in many sizes and colours and can be installed in any location and at any height. They must, however, be attached with bolts, either fastened to the house, a post, or a tree. Try layering three or four sails, like clouds passing overhead, for a more contemporary look.

Rectilinear Awnings

If spherical accessories and rounded furniture are what’s hot right now in backyard decor, the opposite is true for sun shelters. Models with curved sheet metal or aluminum roofs are no longer as popular as before. What people really want are pergola-type shelters with either solid or latticed square or rectangular roofs

Imposing Structure

Another trend is building a pergola with oversized wooden posts. This is the one for you if you want to make this feature the focal point of your design. You can even get creative and use distinctively shaped posts instead of the typical square ones. Unfortunately, prefabricated models are hard to find in stores – you will have to contact a specialist company to construct one for you.

A Marriage of Wood and Aluminum

Particularly pleasing to the eye – although they are more expensive – garden shelters that combine wood and aluminum (or any other metal) are highly fashionable at the moment. It is a very sophisticated look. However, it should be noted that in some exterior design styles, the use of both these materials in the composition of a sun shelter could result in an incongruous look.

Built-In Storage

This year, vendors couldn’t keep models featuring storage compartments in stock, such as structures with hooks, planters, built-in bins, or benches that extend from one post to the other. Other manufacturers offer models with a wood wall on one side that includes shelving for storage. You can be sure that next year more of these practical shelters will be in stores!

A Patio Umbrella Anchored to the Ground

Perhaps you prefer not always being in the shade. If that is the case, opt for a patio umbrella that can be opened and closed. You’ve probably already seen durable outdoor patio umbrellas that stay upright thanks to a large heavy base. For some property owners, this base eats up too much yard space, while others find it unsightly. The solution? Ignore the base and stick the pole directly into the ground with a screw pile (available at all hardware stores). It’s chic and practical! Here’s a tip: make sure you get a good-quality, sturdy umbrella covering that won’t have faded after only one season.

Are you dying to have a new sun shelter so that you can make the most of this summer? You don’t have to wait until next year to get started on your project; your investment will still look good in a few months. Happy shopping!
