6 Decor Ideas for Creating a Hotel-Inspired Bedroom

Everyone dreams of sleeping in a 5-star hotel room: they are cozy and sophisticated. The good news is that you don’t need a big budget to recreate this look at home. Here are some key design elements for creating a spectacular master bedroom!

1. It’s all About the Bed

What makes sleeping at a hotel so special is being able to dive into all that billowy and pillowy bedding (it’s like sleeping on a cloud!). Indeed, a suite is not worthy of the name if it does not have an eye-catching bed! The first step in achieving this effect is to pile on as many fluffy cushions as you can. A large headboard with rounded corners is also ideal. Likewise, choose a heavy, thick duvet for an extra-luxurious sleeping experience.

2. Quality Linens

When selecting materials for your decor, choose quality fabrics (and don’t think you need to break the bank either!), such as a tufted velvet reading chair, a just-like-the-real-thing faux fur throw, or delicate, silky sheets. Avoid textiles that wrinkle easily or quickly fade. For added softness, dare to carpet the entire floor just like in the chicest hotels.

3. Sophisticated Colours

Luxury hotel rooms usually feature classic timeless colours. Designers snub overly trendy tones and styles that quickly become dated. Everything from furniture to bedding and even accessories such as towels, mirrors or carpets is purchased in creamy white, sandstone, black, brown and grey! In addition to being convenient, this monochrome look is highly practical as well as very sophisticated.

4. The Illusion of Height

Prestigious properties often have high ceilings. Upscale hotels try to replicate this feature event though their ceilings are at the usual height. How do they do it? One trick is to hang curtains that extend from the ceiling to the floor (and from wall to wall). Another method is to create an optical illusion with paint or wallpaper to make the ceiling appear higher than it actually is.

5. Luxurious Window Dressings

Curtains should feature prominently in a hotel-inspired decor. Velvet and high-quality cotton – that has been meticulously ironed – are popular choices, but sheers are the most common type of window dressing, usually in thick and very wide panels to create a nice undulating effect when drawn. Why not do the same in your room? Here’s a tip! For added elegance, don’t hesitate to hang them along the full length of the wall.

6. Soft Lighting

The most beautiful hotel rooms in the world are often bright and sunny in the daytime thanks to generously sized windows. In the evening, however, the use of different light sources transforms these rooms into cozy hideaways. Do the same in your bedroom by integrating various types of soft lighting: chandeliers, hanging light fixtures, floor lamps and other accessories that provide a delicate glow are great additions if this is the atmosphere you want to create.

Simplicity and sophistication are the guiding principles you should follow to create a sumptuous hotel-inspired bedroom. What are you waiting for?
